My dad taught me this trick a week or so ago. I realize it may be a bit late in the summer, but perhaps not.

Sometimes when tomato plants get nice and big and bushy, we think that means they’re doing really great. And they are, but they’re doing too great at making leaves and more plant material, when they should be putting more energy into making tomatoes.

If the tomato plant is indeterminate (meaning it won’t just grow to a certain size and stop), it needs to be pruned.  And the place you prune is right in the “crotch”, if you will, of where it likes to put out three shoots.

Prune away!
